VIKING ARROWHEAD 850-1100 AD.

3 3/4" total length. Well forged with a slight medial ridge one side and the other flat. A flesh cutting arrow with a leaf-shaped point on spread foot with a tapered tang. Used against unarmed civilians for raiding before the attack. Vikings menaced the coastal towns of the Mediterranean, particularly southern Italy, taking booty and slaves to be sold in the North African Arab market or for their own use. Similar examples of Viking tanged arrowheads are preserved at the Swedish History Museum, Stockholm. Excellent stable excavated condition.
