LOT 0010

VIKING HEART PENDANT 900-1050 AD.

[ translate ]

Just over ¾” height, made by the open face mold method with broad borders terminating as a central trefoil motif and forming the cusped heart top. The foliate trefoil was a very popular motif for Viking hearts. The form of the heart is natural as in the body rather than stylized with the top cusp. Both forms are used profusely in Nordic literature. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Light surface wear and texture from burial. Professionally refurbished with the Silver surface restored for contemporary wear on a sterling silver neck chain. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity
