VIÑALES, Museum, VERY FRESH XXL - 293 g - (1)

[ translate ]

Beautiful specimen collected before the rains, so its conservation is perfect. Very fresh fusion crust, clear interior with iron oxide and inner veins This meteorite, on February 1, 2019, exploded several kilometres high, generating a meteor shower over the area of Viñales National Park. The astronomical event occurred between 1: 20 and 1: 30 pm and was observed in almost all municipalities of Pinar del Río province and in the seven meteorological stations of the territory. It was visible in the form of a fireball crossing the sky, followed by a condensing wake and a loud explosion. On the site a research was carried out by specialists from the Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy, the Territorial Delegation of CITMA, the Provincial Meteorological Centre, the Centre for Environmental Research and Services ECOVIDA and the Office of Geophysics of MINEM. The sample shows magnetism, due to the abundance of iron, as well as a very slight radioactivity, given by the presence of very few small crystals of galena and bastnasite. None of these objects are considered radioactive or pose any danger to humans. At Expometeoritos, we take care of the dissemination, talks, workshops, analysis, classification and exhibitions of Meteorites. We are members of: .
- IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association) #8187 .
- Meteoritical Society .
- American Meteor Society All our pieces are certified and besides, we deliver an analysis of its chemical composition, of each piece, performed by an X-ray spectrography.
