Description: 3 vol., 8vo: [4]-ii-388-3, [4]-364, [4]-342 pp.; 9 pl. (scattered sl. spotting, occ. marg. tears, sm. part of upper corners of pp. 109-112 missing and marg. loss of paper to pp. 171-172 in vol. III). - Unique edition of these travels in England, Scotland and Ireland. Illustrated with 3 fold. maps and 6 engr. plates. The journalist Chantreau (1741-1808) taught French at the Royal School of Ávila. He became a member of the Real Academia Española and received the title of Don Chantreau thanks to the French grammar he published for Hispanics. Back in France, he joined the revolutionary ideas movement and became an employee at the libraries section of the Committee of Public Instruction. He proposed the creation of an educational newspaper "Les Documents de la raison, feuille antifanatique" and wrote the Courrier du département du Gers. He was later a teacher of history at the l'École militaire. - Ref. Cox III:104. - Quérard II:127/128. - Not in Chadenat, ESTC. - Prov. Gustaf Trolle-Bonde (1773-1855), named "the Blind Excellency" was a patron of the arts and collector of books and paintings (ms. entry and gilt monogram on spines). - Säfstaholms bibliothek (bookpl.), G. Trolle-Bonde inherited Säfstaholms in 1797, rebuilt the house and expanded the library and art collection. The library was sold in 1920 and is now an art museum.
