Vallauris / Dix ans de Céramique. 1958.
"[Picasso] did not begin to design posters in any substantial way until 1948 and he did so only in connection with his first poster commissions in Vallauris... His plates, vases, and jugs are either in the shape of animals or are decorated with them. Consequently, the posters carry the lettering and a simple sketch of the animals with which his ceramics are identified... He uses color sparingly, since color as an element of design contributes to the meaning of the matter advertised. The ceramic posters are mostly in one or two colors, as are the ceramics themselves for the most part. Thus, the integration of color and design is carefully worked out" (Posters of Picasso, p.18). This exhibition celebrates 10 years of Picasso's pottery, and includes recent works by 100 potters.
