Vase (2) - Bronze - Dragon - Kimura Tōun 木村渡雲 (Murata Seimin II) - Pair of usubata vases decorated with coiling dragons - Marked 'Tōun ju' 渡雲鋳 with kaō 花押 - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912) 2 Usubata dragon vases. Antique, early 20th century Japanese cast and mounted bronze Usubata dragon vases with two coiling dragons an a lively pose with hand-driven details and an entirely deep brown greenish tinted patina. The unique thing is that two vases are being offered, from which you can see that they are really handmade, due to the slight differences. For example, from the position of the claws of the "mounted" dragons. And a minimal difference in height. They are not damaged or restored, but in original, beautiful condition. The bottoms of the vases have various floral patterns, inside. These are the hallmarks of the people who made the vases. They have a different pattern. And a maker's mark on the underside. From which the name and designer of the vases can be deduced, this as "master artist" in bronzeware. As a trader, I have not seen these vases before in this shape and quality. The weight per vase is approx. 3 kg, and the height incl. dragon is 26 cm. Where the dragon's feet come together, the vases are 18 cm in diameter. The tops of the vases are 10 cm in diameter. And the vases are 11 cm in diameter at the bottom.
