Vase - Satsuma - Porcelain - Flowers - Signed 'Katei ga' 柯亭画 (Katei painted) beneath Shimazu family crest - Japan - Late 19th century (Meiji period) An Exquisite Antique Japanese Kyo Satsuma Porcelain Early Meiji Gosu Blue Vase. A fine handprinted Satsuma vase from the very early Meiji period (circa 1870) . Indications for this period is the gold Satsuma 'Mon' and thickly applied gold decoration. Another reference is the sought after 'Gosu' blue which was used in the Edo period and early Meiji period after it was replaced for western kobalt blue. The decoration is depicting fine floral motifs in thick, but precise enamels. Decoration and colour palet wise, this vase seems to be Kyo-Satsuma. The mark is unclear, but seems to read: ⨁ (Satsuma) 柯(?) 亭画 Katei ga painted? However the mark is hard to determine exactly, it sure mentioned the area and respect of the work. Condition: Excellent, prestine condition with only a very small glaze flaw on the lower rim of the foot. (See photo 8) . Dimensions: 21 x 10 x 10cm Insured priority shipping worldwide.
