Vermoedelijk Lecce - Sculpture, saint Joseph with baby Jesus - 100 cm. - Papier-mache - Second half 19th century
Nice, special and large sculpture of Saint Joseph with baby Jesus, made of papier mache. Probably from Lecce in Italy, which is famous for its paper mache sculptures. Second half of the 20th century. Beautiful details, see hands and toes. This kind of imagery is rarely offered. It used to be painted entirely in gold paint, but is painted over in white. It may be that the filling of Baby Jesus is of wood. The diameter of the foot is 30 cm. Another piece of fine craftsmanship.
