Verner Panton - Herman Miller, Fehlbaum Production - Chair - Panton S Chair
This model is an early Herman Miller/Fehlbaum production, made in Weil am Rhein at the time. This set is also engraved as such, and the production date of 1978 is visible. The ribs at the bottom are typical of the earlier Hermann Miller production. It was the first chair made entirely from one piece of plastic Born in Denmark in 1926, Verner Panton studied at Odense Technical College before enrolling in the Department of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. From 1950 to 1952 he worked for Arne Jacobsen's company before founding his own studio in 1955 and focusing on experimental architecture and design. In 1959 he debuted with his Cone Chair. In 1960 he developed the first inflatable furniture collection and started interior projects. In the early 1960s, Panton moved to Basel to start a productive and fruitful relationship with Vitra, with whom he developed the S Chair.
