Oil on Canvas Landscape, Signed V.B. Smith and dated 1920 lower right. Housed in a Hand Carved and Hand Painted Frame of the artists make. The Scene is a woodland homestead with buildings and laundry hanging on the line. An earlier work by the artist and may be of his hometown in Cortland NY. Work measures 25" x 32" and frame measures: 38" x 31" work is slack on the stretcher and exhibits deep craquelure. Should be conserved properly.
Vernon Bennett Smith was a Cape Cod Massachusetts Artist and WPA Administrator known for his Bas Relief woodcarvings, Oil Paintings, Watercolors, and Batik Fabrics. He also worked in metal and created miniatures. The works in this auction are directly from members of his family.
