Mortier, 1695, 59 text p., general title page and 4 titles in red and black, with engraved frontispiece, large folding plan and 218 engraved plates (5x folding), contemporary halfcalf, ribbed and gilt back with morocco letterpiece, 4to. Plan with small tear (restored). Outer corners bumped and spine top trifle damaged (leather sl. dry). Good copy.
The first Dutch edition, the original French edition appeared in 1694. Beautiful and complete overview of all sculptures of Versailles at the time of Louis XIV. The text consists of a foreword and extensive indices for the plates (by number and alphabetically), in the aforementioned four languages. The plate part has been divided into 4 parts, each with separate title page: (1) Les Statues Antiques et Modernes (pl. 1-53); (2) Les Groupes (pl. 54-85); (3) Les Fontaines &c. (pl. 86-172); (4) Les Thermes et Vases (pl. 173-218).
