Very ancient empire style tombstone (1) - White Carrara marble stone - Early 19th century

An ancient and rare marble tombstone with a carved cross on one side and an inscription on the other side. The characters and style can be traced back to the empire period of the early 19th century. The stone was found in an ancient Italian monastery during the restoration works. It is possible to notice an iron ring inserted in the marble and the rear part with an engraving in Latin language "hic Joseph quiescit in pace" (here Joseph rests in peace) . This small stone was placed when the deceased was buried and his remains deposited in small urns.
