Very rare African necklace with Venetian pearls from the 18th and 19th century, absolutely remarkable! A series of ten six herringbone white, blue and red beads is set to the rhythm of claws, one of which is glued back together with yellow cane beads. The beads on this jewel are evidence of the difficulty of making multi-layered beads. Air bubbles, symmetry problems... all the pearls are to be studied because none of them looks like the other. They were used as bargaining chips in many African countries.
Congo Kinshasa, 18th-19th centuries.
Internal length of the collar: 63 cm.
Gross weight: about 900 g.
