Title: Victorian Cranberry Glass Ribbed Biscuit Jar c 1900

A large hand-blown, ribbed cranberry glass biscuit jar with a ground pantile mark and bubbles in the glass. The rim has been fitted with a silver plated metal collar and handle. A white cement used to secure the rim is visible under the inside of the metal rim. The lid matches the metal of the rim mount and it fits snuggly. It has a hole on the edge to fit a spoon or tongs. A working handle has round bead hinges, and can still remain straight up. The jar and metal mounts have a nice weight to them. The jar fits flat on a surface. There are no marks or labels on the jar and mount. There is a work silver (plate) mark on the underside of the lid. It looks like am English silver plate hallmark MEASUREMENTS 6 ½Â” (16.5 cm) tall (when handle is lowered) x 4 ¾Â” (12.1 cm) diameter. 7 ½Â” (19.1 cm) tall with handle extended.Weighs 1 lb 3.4 oz (555 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips or breaks in the glass. There are bubbles in the glass. The jar mounts and lid still has some silver but much as been worn off. A large jar to adorn the window and let the glow of cranberry shine through. You could even store cookies in it, Mmmmm!
