The model was designed in 1961 by the Swedish designer Pelle Petterson, who was employed at the time by the Italian coachbuilder Frua. This was the second model by which Volvo attempted to penetrate the sports car market. The first model, the P1900, was not a success. Quality problems became disastrous for that model, a mistake that Volvo wouldn’t make again with the P1800. A white 1800 S with the license plate ST 1 was used in the 1960s in the hit television series “The Saint” starring Roger Moore as Simon Templar. Of this unique Volvo 1800 E between 1970 and 1971 only 4750 pieces were produced. This Volvo is in relatively neat and original state. The upholstery and seats are still in a neat condition, as is the dashboard. The car is also pretty well painted (except for some user traces and scratches that are to be expected with age. The car was originally 'Safari Yellow') . The vehicle starts immediately, shifts smoothly and powerfully through all gears, idles nicely at 900 rpm and brakes properly.
