Awarded to Captain Arthur Bartlett Wales MC, who was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry at Ypres and in the post war years was elected Mayor Of Hove Sussex. Captain Arthur Bartlett Wales MC was educated at Hove High School and in 1913 was elected a Councillor in 1913. In January 1916 he was commissioned into the Essex Regiment being posted to the 5th Bn, he was soon posted to a Trench Mortar Battery. He served in France and a local newspaper announced the award of the MC stating marked ability and courage under very heavy shell fire during the Ypres offensive October 1917. He was posted to the Italian Front and after the end of the War, remained a Territorial Officer of the 5th Bn Essex Regiment. He was elected Mayor of Hove in 1928 and in 1935 he resigned his commission due to age. He died in 1953.
