Japanese WWII Type 94 military sword, the 27" bright steel blade with Japanese character markings appearing only on the blade tang (nakajo) which is covered by a wood handle with silk wrapping, blade in very good condition without nicks, the guard is black steel, a forward mekuji peg a black threaded screw, the rear a wood peg, housed in a black finish wood interior metal scabbard, likely aluminum, with no markings, overall: approx 39"l; 3.5lbs total **Provenance: From the estate of Ali A. Abssi (1934-2020) and Florence Hall Abssi (1919-2014), founders of the Ishtar Gate Gallery in the prestigious Houston Galleria. They were world travelers and dealers of eclectic art, jewelry, antiquities, and gems.
