Wax carved relief of "The Death of Lucretia" and Pietra Dura marble mosaic paperweight, 2 items total. 1st item: Polychrome wax relief plaque depicting "The Death of Lucretia," after Antonio Abondio (Italian, 1538-1591) depicting a classical female figure wearing a blue-green garment and pearls in her hair, pushing a dagger into her lower chest and gazing over right shoulder; figure framed by draperies. Numbered en verso. Housed under glass in a molded wooden frame. Sight: 7 1/2" H x 5 7/8" W. Framed: 11 1/8" H x 9 1/2" W. 2nd item: Polished Pietra Dura marble plaque or paperweight with two multi-colored mosaic birds facing one another perched on a branch with a black ground. Numbered en verso. 3 1/8" H x 4 3/4" W. Late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
Condition Report: 1st item: Overall good condition with hairline fractures in wax along left side and neck and shoulder of figure, minor wax losses to braided hair. Minor abrasion to stain of frame. Not examined outside of frame. 2nd item: Overall very good condition with very minor wear to top right corner and glue residue en verso.
