Webber.", oil on canvas, 24 x 40 in.; period carved gilt wood and composition liner, 28-1/4 x 44-1/4 in.˜Note: Wesley Webber served in the Civil War,˜witnessing history while present˜at General Lee's surrender at Appomattox. The only artist present that day, a large lithograph of Webber's rendering of the scene was published by J. J. Bufford of Boston,˜bringing him instant fame as an artist.˜Provenance: Estate of Gail W.
