Western Asiatic Painted Ram Rhyton
2nd century AD. A terracotta rhyton with broad bell-shaped body decorated with black painted linear detailing, developing to a ram's foreparts with horns recurved to connect with the bowl, nozzle located at the lower chest, cream and black fur detailing; mounted on a custom-made stand. 2 kg total, 24cm with stand (9 1/2"). Previously in a South German private collection, 1970s; subsequently on the London art market; acquired 2006; accompanied by a thermoluminescence test dated 18.07.13.
