CATALOGUE NOTES: The Pitt Club is a private members' club named in honour of William Pitt the Younger, the late 18th/early 19th century statesman who became the UK's youngest prime minister. The present medal, created after examples issued during the 19th century with cameos by Tassie, was issued on the occasion of the bicentenary of Pitt's death in 2006. The 19th century examples made when the club was in its early days were a feature of club life and even appear in the regulations, which decreed 'that each member shall wear, at all the meetings of the Club, the Pitt Medal, tied on his left breast with a garter blue ribbon, and that the larger Medal, with a wider ribbon, be worn by the Chairman of the day'
