Wonderful very old original statue of Yakushi Nyorai 薬師如来 - Beautiful wooden deity - Buddha of Medicine and Healing - Japan - Muromachi period, ca. 1550

Beautiful impressive Buddhist statue of Yakushi Nyorai, 薬師如来, the Buddha of Medicine and Healing, Master of Healing Japan, Muromachi period, ca. 1550 Yakushi is typically shown with right hand forming the fear not mudrā and the left hand holding a small jar of medicine (yakko 薬壺) . The jar is said to contain a miraculous emerald that is capable of curing all earthly illness sickness as Yakushi is the buddha who offers medicine to people suffering from illness, and grants nourishment to the mind and body. A very rare Japanese wooden Buddhist statue in remarkable condition given the age. See for example the beautiful detailed yakko. Signs of aging, see photos.
