Woodblock Print Square Evidence, Original Signed by Hiroyuki Tajima (1911 - 1984); Hiroyuki Tajami's work appears to glow from behind. Mr. Tajima was born in Tokyo and graduated from Nihon University in 1932. He continued his studies at Tokyo School of Fine Arts, graduating from the Western-style painting division in 1934. He studied woodblock printing with Yoshio Nagase. Mr. Tajima made his first print in 1946 and joined Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai that same year. This organization was instrumental in the revitalization of abstract printing and surrealist painting in the wake of World War II. Between 1950 and 1952, Tajima took a break from printmaking to write short stories and poetry. He returned to printmaking in the 1960s, participating in international exhibitions and exploring unlikely materials and complex textures in his abstract prints. His works are shown throughout the world. This work, Square Evidence is matted and glazed behind non-reflective glass in a brown wood frame. The work is signed and dated '76. All is in very good condition. The framed work measures 25 1/2" W x 30" H x 1 1/2" D, the print measures 18 1/2" x 23 1/2".
