Y A GEORGE II FIGURED WALNUT AND TULIPWOOD CROSSBANDED SERPENTINE KNEEHOLE DESK CIRCA 1760 87.5cm high, 129.5cm wide, 66cm deep Provenance: The personal collection of Sir Patrick Sergeant, the founder of Euromoney Institutional InvestorThe serpentine form of the present kneehole desk, with canted corners and pilasters and the use of tulipwood as crossbanding seem somewhat rare on kneehole desks. A George III mahogany kneehole desk of related serpentine form was sold in these rooms, 15th April 2015, lot 492, (£17,000 excl. BP). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old, splits and losses As illustrated, significant sun fading and colour variation throughout - some addition water and ring marks to the top Old repairs - see images Handles appear original Locks appear to be old later replacements No key present, all locks are open Various old shrinkage cracks to veneers One supporting block to the back of one foot is detached but present Some later supporting blocks to the underside of the carcass and backs of feet Backboards appear to be old replacements Some minor evidence of old worm in places Please see all additional images as a visual reference to condition.Condition Report Disclaimer
