Y AN ITALIAN OLIVE WOOD, EBONISED AND MARQUETRY BOXFLORENCE, LATE 17TH CENTURYWith mother-of-pearl and mixed wood floral inlay, within moulded frame, in the manner of pietra dura inlaid boxes produced at the Grand Ducal Workshops at this period14cm high, 24cm wide, 18cm deepWith handwritten paper note inside 'This box was purchased at one of Baron Peter Spink's Antique Fairs about 1966 or 7'.Condition Report: Box with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some minor small losses to veneers. Some opening to joins between different elements of moulding. The catch for the lock is lacking. the lock is likely an old replacement. Two keys are present but do not operate the lock. Hinges are replacements. There are areas of filler next to the hinges from where previous ones sat. The screws securing one hinge are loose. the front and one side panel with a strip of bone inlay lacking. These areas have been replaced by light coloured filler. Later fabric applied to the underside of the box. This has some wear and small losses to edges. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
