Cupid Bound, a lady, seated in a landscape with Cupid upon her knee, she binds Cupid's arms with blue ribbon from her mauve lace trimmed robes, she also wears straw hat with blue ribbon and lace decoration

In a gilt metal frame with pierced spiral cresting, the reverse with glazed oval cartouche revealing green fabric.

The present lot has previously been erroneously attributed to Samuel Shelly (1750/56-1808), who also painted this type of large scale allegorical subject. The scene depicted represents the myth of Chastity binding Cupid. In this instance the purpose being to convey the lady's purity and restraint.
