Yad (2) - Pointer for Torah
Pair of "yad" torah hands in 875 silver (84 Zolotniki) .
Both Yads are made of silver and have similarities in finish and are both truncated cone shaped.
In the coma of both are prophets, one with a crown and papyrus and the other with the Star of David. In the stems are symbols: Leaf, Lion and Star of David in one and Leaf Lion Leaf in the other.
Both shafts are then worked in turned cast silver and in one there is a double spiral.
Both end with a sleeved hand
Yad measures eagle approx. 29. 7 cm. Yad measures lion approx. 30 cm.
Hallmarks present in both objects that I have not been able to decipher:
-PROPHET WITH STAR: "BULL (Cyprian Lebecki) - O. C. 1879 (Joseph Sosnkowski) - 84 Zolotniki - stamp City of Warsaw"
- PROPHET WITH PAPYRUS "BULL? . unidentified - A. И. 1798 unidentified - 84 Zolotniki - Saint George on Horseback"
Good general condition, excellent patina, small scattered micro scratches have not been cleaned
Remark:
The yad (Hebrew יד, literally "hand"; Yiddish teitel) is a pointer used to guide public readings of the text of the Sefer Torah. During the reading of the Law in the synagogue, the reader stands on the right, the "called one" in the middle, and the segan (representative of the congregation) on the left. The segan uses the yad to point to the text the reader is to read. . cit
