Zizenhausen figure, Basel, 19th cen

Zizenhausen figure, Basel, 19th century, "Totentanz" (Dance of Death) by Anton Sohn, colored clay, "Death and the Queen", height 13,5 x 9,5 cm, damaged, cracks, slight signs of abrasion.
The model for these groups of figures were the engravings by the Swiss-German engraver and publisher Matthäus Merian, published in 1621. These engravings go back to a painting from the late Middle Ages, which was painted on the inside of the cemetery wall near the Predigerkirche in Basel.
