Zoltan Kluger - Photograph Series of Landscapes and Figures in the Land of Israel, 20th Century

[ translate ]

[15] EretzYisraeli photographs of landscapes and people, in black-and-white, by photographer Zoltan Kluger. The series includes spectacular photographs: Aerial photographs, a laborer on an electric pole, laborers plowing a field, a lifeguard at a Tel Aviv beach, Tirat Tzvi, a produce truck, a soldier; Beit Alpha, Nir David and additional locations.
Some of the photographs have ink stamps of the "Oriental Press Photography Company" (see more about this below) and some are stamped with other ink stamps. A few of the photographs are hand-dated and described on their backs.
Zoltan Kluger [1896-1977] was a photographer who worked in the Land of Israel and then in the State of Israel, and documented life therein with his photographs. His photographs depict "the state in-the-making" and its residents from almost every possible angle and place. "The Oriental Press Photography Company" (stamped on the back of these photographs) was a company which was unique in the landscape of EretzYisraeli photography and it supplied most of the photographs for the central Zionist bodies. Kluger was a partner and head photographer of the company, and became the primary photographer of the process of founding the settlement until the establishment of the state. During WWI, he served as an aerial photographer in the Austro-Hungarian air force.
Kluger left a large collection behind, currently divided between large public archives in Israel such as the United Israel Appeal, the Central Zionist Archives, the Jewish National Fund Collection, the Government Press Office, State Archives and IDF Archives.
Various sizes. Some of the pictures have stamps and signatures. Overall very fine condition.
