FUNCTION: During the sowing, the Tyiwara would dance to bless and protect the cultivators during the growing season and then, during the crops to thank the sun, and the best cultivator is awarded with the couple of antelopes of the year, as trophy. POPULATION: Bambara (Bamana) from Mali, region of Ségou. DESCRIPTION: the male is softwood is materialised by a large wheel; finely carved in lace woodwork, this large male is typical of the region of Ségou, located in the centre of Mali. The female carries a youngster on the back. MATERIALS: softwood with a wonderful brown patina of manipulation, glass beads; a porting helm in woven rattan covered with cotton fabric and animal hair. STATE OF PRESERVATION: there is a little missing piece on the tip of one of the male’s horns; without restoration; wear due to ancient use. DIMENSIONS: 105 cm for the male and 92 cm for the female. PROVENANCE: DABA; former hunters’ chief of Ségou and guardian of worship objects; Farafi Gallery, specialists in arts of Mali for more than twenty five years. Careful shipment via express parcel (Colissimo) with track & trace, including a certificate with a picture, as well as the abovementioned description.
