Judaica - a magnificent pair of large candle stick for Shabbat Hand crafted by an artist in Poland - circa late 19th century Fraget (full name Józef Fraget) - a plated goods factory founded in Warsaw in 1824 by Alfons and Józef Fraget. Already in 1825, the company attracted attention with its products at a public exhibition, receiving a small silver medal for its products. Between 1825 and 1828 a larger premises was rented in the outbuilding of the Łubieński Palace at Królewska 1066 street. Data about the company from the following years indicate that there was a periodic crisis (probably caused by the November Uprising) and the company, looking for a living, had to switch to grocery trade. As early as in 1839, a newspaper advertisement about the sale of new daguerreotypes imported directly from France, at PLN 1,000 each. Each was equipped with 6 plated plates for removing images from nature, glass (probably a lens) and instructions. Probably in 1848 Alfons Fraget withdrew from the venture, and in 1851 he received a plenipotence from his brother to collect inheritance in France of both parents (according to the new calendar on June 21, 1851 in Noskowski's office) and soon afterwards returned to France. In 1844 Józef Fraget bought a plot at 753 Elektoralna Street, erected buildings there, reorganized and modernized factory production. A year later, a second sales shop was opened at Krakowskie Przedmieście 473, and in 1852 a commission store was organized at 491 Miodowa Street. Józef Fraget Tomb of industrialist Julian Fraget and his family in Stare Powązki in Warsaw (section 159-6-9 / 10) Józef Fraget was born on May 25, 1797 in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre (department of Seine-et-Marne) as the son of Ludwik Hubert Fraget and Maria Katarzyna née Mota. He graduated from the Polytechnic in Paris and Charlottenburg near Berlin. While building a new factory, he tried to introduce modern technologies. To this end, from 1847, he traveled around Europe and visited the latest factories. In Paris, he was noticed by cylinder electroplating technology invented by Roult and Elkington and given to Christoph et Comp. in Paris. Fraget bought a patent and brought to Warsaw a specialist familiar with this technology. Initially, only cutlery was made, but soon the production of body platters began. From 1849 new silver (neusilber, yellow) obtained in own foundry was used in production. A galvanic laboratory was also launched. The product range grew significantly, while the platings were bought by representatives of various property classes. In 1850, e. g. a tea set could be bought for 1690, 313 or 291 Polish zlotys, a vase for 700 zlotys, and a table ornament with cornucopia for 2000 zlotys. Copper saucepans were also made whitewashed and silver-plated elements of the carriage lanterns. The plant's employment increased from 17 people in 1839, to 45 in 1845, 150 in 1847 and 239 people in 1859. In 1848, the plant used 168 different machines with a total power of 24 HP, there were turning shops, cutters, modeling rooms, planers, locksmiths, carpentry shops, balance hammers, mechanical shears, and instead of bellows fans were introduced. In 1857, the only silverware cutlery machine from Austria that was the only one in the Kingdom of Poland to obtain 150 dozen of them a day. The products were characterized by precise coating, durability, cleanliness of work as well as beautiful shapes and appropriate size. On July 16, 1867, Józef Fraget died. Julian Fraget His successor was Julian Fraget, born in Warsaw on June 2, 1841. He graduated from the Polytechnic in Liège. He married a female Pole of French descent, Antonina de Sauvè. Under his management, the company retained its former name and, until the end of the 19th century, was a leader in the plated products industry. From 1884, the company widely developed the production of silver argentaria 84 samples. Seeking inspiration, she used the patterns of native artists and collaborated with Siemiradzki and Kucharzewski, among others.
