van Eijk, Niels - Chair (1) - Cow Chair

[ translate ]

Prototype 'Cow Chair' by Niels van Eijk from 1997. Van Eijk graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven with this design and it was immediately included in the collections of various museums: Centraal Museum (Utrecht, The Netherlands) Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, USA) This is one of the first chairs from a fellow student who assisted in its manufacture and who received this as a gift from Van Eijk. This prototype differs slightly from the version that was ultimately taken into production by Droog design and which is still for sale. The chair offered here is several centimetres shorter and it only has 1 'seam' in the centre of the back instead of 2. Also, a smaller piece of hide was used; the designer was still figuring out the correct dimensions and proportions. In addition to being a very responsible item aesthetically, there is also a conceptual layer included in the work. It has a gorgeous colour palette. The chair is sturdy, it can be used as a seat. Very special collector's item! Included is the catalogue from 1997 from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, in which the design is shown. (Also from the first owner, an old fellow student from Van Eijk.) Seat height is 42 cm. (All photos are of the relevant chair and have been taken by the provider and may be used freely by the buyer. These can be sent after the auction, upon request.) Worldwide shipping. Will be very well-packaged.
