Descriptio Fluminum Rheni, Vahalis Et Mosae
By J. Janssonius
14-3/4 x 19-1/2 inches. Beautifully detailed copper plate engraving of the Central Netherlands, composed by famed Dutch cartographer, Jan Janssonius. Extremely rare edition of this chart where the three great rivers flow to within a few kilometers of each below Wesel. The scale allows most of the larger towns to be depicted by miniature plans showing fortifications. Title cartouche in bottom right of upper chart. Scale displayed in center. Extracted from Koemans Atlantes Neerlandici and containing text from the atlas on reverse of sheet. The original plates for this map were later acquired by Willem Blaeu, who then used them for his own, more modern cartographic publications. Minor discoloration to page. Slight chipping, mostly across top border, but not affecting the body of the chart. Vertical center crease from atlas extraction. Overall, a superior and extremely rare map in excellent condition.
