2 volumes. FIRST EDITION. Bound in modern dark green three quarter crushed morocco leather morocco with marbled boards and raised bands. The plates are in excellent condition with rich coloring. No foxing -- no foxing -- at all. Volume I: xviii, 330, [6 Index], [2 Arrangement of plates] pages; Volume II: [4], 275 [276 blank], [4 Index] pages. Colated and complete with all eighty-three aquatint plates. Frontispiece portrait of William Vincent and plan of Westminster are uncolored as indicated in Abbey #213. Illustrated [by F. Mackenzie, A. Pugin, J. Bluck, T. Uwins, G. Shepherd, J. Hamble, T. Sutherland and others]. 13.5 inches tall by 11 inches. Frontispiece is uncolored engraving of William Vincent. Evidence that the set is ex-lib as there are discreet erasures to the bottom margins of almost all plates, such being not immediately noticeable. This is the so-called "second issue", with the plate titled "Aymer de Valance" in the second volume signed "A. Pugin". One of the great Ackermann color-plate books, complete with plan, portrait line engraving, and 81 hand-colored aquatint plates. An attractive set with the plates in excellent, fresh condition.
