By Vancouver, Captain George; Henry, P.F. (translator)
First Edition of this Second French Translation by P.F. Henry. 5 Volumes (missing sixth), 8vo. viii, 341pp; 384pp; 381pp; 368pp; 438pp; each with half-titles; no plates, missing volume 6 the atlas. Books: Very Good; great for its age and the fact the binding appears to be the original blue patterned paper over publisher's boards; rubbed and discoloured, with handwritten paper spine labels 'Voyage de Vancouver tom' and volume number; the page edges are rough untrimmed; waste paper stubs used in each volume appearing at the title-pages, with print (in French) on the stubs of volumes 2, 3, 4, and there are other printed sheets beneath some pastedowns, most visibly volume 4 rear blank pastedown which is most transparent showing a printed page under it. Volume 4 spine is also lifting and shows an amount of manuscript writing on parchment within the spine structure, as the spines of each volume appear to include parchment over the quires, possibly recycled unrelated letters or documents that the binder had at hand - the printed and manuscript material within the binding structures have not been yet investigated but could yield some fruit for an antiquary. Pages: Very Good; text is clean overall aside from some fingerprints, the page edges are rough, uncut. 5 volumes, missing atlas, Paris: Didot Jeune, An X [1801-2].
Published by: De l'Impreimerie de Didot Jeune (1801-1082), 1801
