Russian Patinated Cast Iron Figure of Mephistopheles After Jacques Louis Gautier, cast by the Kasli
Estate / Collection: Estate of Bartlett Burnap
Modeled in a standing pose, dressed in a cloak and with a sword, inscribed J. GAUTIER and with raised stamp marks in Cyrilic on the underside MADE IN USSR and KASLI 1966. Height 29 inches.
Butterfiled & Butterfield, San Francisco, CA, November 8/10, 1988, lot 3853.
Condition Report: Please Note: THE SWORD IS MISSING
there are scattered areas with wear and rubbing (losses) to the patina, perhaps most notably, to the figure's proper left thigh, knee and front leg area below the knee; there is blotchiness to the patina, most notably, to the figure's cape; the sword is now lost (missing); no apparent breaks, restoration, etc.; not black lighted
(Yes, I know I am repeating myself above but I want to make it clear the sword is now missing).
Also, I made a spelling correction in the Provenance box (in GoAuction) because the first occurrence of the name Butterfield was misspelled as shown below. Can you also make this update on Invaluable and Live Auctioneers?
