Ten (10) Asian related items, including hardstone trees and silver and enamel hair accessories. 1st & 2nd items: Two (2) miniature hardstone wire-wrapped mineral trees with cornelian stones mounted onto cloisonne quatrefoil bases having four feet with foliate designs on a blue ground. Museum accession numbers on undersides. Both items 5 1/2" H x 3 1/8" W x 2 1/2" D. Late 19th/early 20th century. 3rd - 5th items: Set of three (3) blue enamel silver hairpin ornaments with circular geometric designs. Museum accession numbers on undersides. Ranging in size from 1/2" H x 2 7/8" W to 1/2" H x 3 7/8" W. 19th century. 6th item: Chinese hair styling rat of woven horsehair sewn over a coiled paper core. Museum accession number on underside. 3/4" H x 4" W x 3 1/8" D. 19th century. 7th item: Set of twenty-two (22) loose rectangular pages of a Buddhist prayer book with black block print and red tinted edges; title text transliterates to 'Bkra shis Brtsegs pa Bzhugs so,' and translates to 'Establishment of Auspiciousness.' Museum accession number labeled in pencil. Each page is approximately 3" H x 10 1/2" W. Early 20th century. 8th item: Rectangular carved wooden commercial marking stamp of man’s name, “Kao-huei-to,” in Chinese characters. 1 3/8" H x 3 3/4" W x 1 1/4" D. 19th century. 9th item: Circular wooden Chinese astrolabe with a recessed center and Chinese characters carved around the rim; missing inner ring with pointer. Paper lining within recess with the Chinese character for ‘shi’ or ‘west.’ Signed with a Chinese character that could be ‘wu’ or ‘noon’ and faded black ink characters with museum accession number on underside. 1 3/8” H x 3 3/8” dia. 19th century. 10th item: Set of four flat wooden voucher sticks attached by a string through a hole at one end with Chinese characters in black. Museum accession number on each. 2 1/2” H x 5 3/8” W. Provenance: The collection of a Tennessee institution.
Condition Report: All items in overall good condition. 1st & 2nd items: Surface grime and some tarnish with small area of enamel loss below foliate design lower quadrant. 3rd - 5th items: Some tarnishing and slight fading to enamel. 6th item: Some tearing of woven horsehair on underside. 7th item: Slight fading of ink. 8th item: Two circular spots of glue residue on the back. 9th item: Missing inner metal portion with pointer; inner liner paper stained and some scratches to the surface of wood. 10th item: Small white paint residue on one stick.
