Literature

The U.S. Three-Cent Nickel was a unique minor coin denomination officially minted from 1865 to 1889. While it was never produced up to 1943, the years 1874 and 1943 represent two critical milestones in its history—1874 marked the post-Civil War decline in its production, and 1943 was the year the U.S. government legally authorized its emergency revival due to wartime metal shortages, though it was ultimately never struck.
