10th C. Byzantine Bronze Cross Relief

Near East, Holy Land, Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. A wonderful cast-bronze relief of a Byzantine cross with slender, flared arms, each adorned with triangular and floral motifs. A 5-petalled flower embellishes the center of the ancient Christogram. The lovely example additionally boasts a verdant green patina, imbuing it with an elegant presentation evocative of ancient Byzantium. Size: 2.3" W x 3.1" H (5.8 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
