10th C. Khazar Iron Single Edged Sword w/ Wood Remains
Middle East to Central Asia, Khazar culture, ca. 10th to 11th century CE. A gorgeous forged-iron sword with a short tang and a diamond-shaped hand guard. The lengthy saber-style blade has a straight profile with a thick spine and a single sharpened edge along one side. Areas of the blade and tang feature original traces of the wooden handle guard and sheath that feel surprisingly smooth and have taken on an attractive orange hue. Size: 27.25" L x 3.1" W (69.2 cm x 7.9 cm)

Condition Report: Repair to back half of tang, with earthen stabilization material along break lines. Nicks and pitting to blade, hand guard, and tang, with chipping to most original wooden components, slight bending to overall form, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and patina to iron and wood components throughout.
