10th C. Korean Koryo Glazed Pottery Vase TL Tested

East Asia, Korea, Koryo (also Goryeo) Dynasty, ca. 918 to 1392 CE. A fine wheel-thrown pottery vase with a flat base, an inverted piriform body with a rounded shoulder, a corseted neckline, and a squat, flared rim. The exterior surfaces are covered with dozens of raised bulbs that create an interesting textured feel, and the surface is ash-glazed to a deep brown-red hue. An attractive example of utilitarian Korean artistry! Size: 8.1" W x 9.8" H (20.6 cm x 24.9 cm).

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.

Condition Report: Minor nicks to rim, body, and base, with slight fading to original glaze coloration, and light encrustations within some open bulbs, otherwise intact and very good. Great earthen deposits throughout. One TL drill hole beneath base.
