11th C. Islamic Stone Lion Head Spout
**First Time At Auction**
Islamic World, Medieval period, ca. 11th to 13th century CE. A delightful carved water spout in the form of a lion's head, made from a grey-green stone that is polished to a high sheen. The back of the head has a round opening for fitting onto a pipe, while the mouth has a small opening to form the fountain. The animal has a strong brow, short snout, and large eyes with drilled pupils. The facial style is very similar to the Lion de Monzon at the Louvre (OA 7883), a fountain spout found at Monzon de Campos, Palencia, Spain. Size: 1" W x 1.1" H (2.5 cm x 2.8 cm); 1.75" H (4.4 cm) on included custom stand.
