12th C. Cambodian Terracotta Footed Kendi

Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Khmer period, ca. 12th century CE. A fine Cambodian umber-hued terracotta kendi (or teapot) with a footed base, a bulbous body with a protruding conical spout, a tall tubular neck, a narrow mouth, and a wide, flat rim. A decorative program of vertical zigzag lines, applied in a faint glaze, are visible on the underside of the body as well as on the neck and upper body. Size: 4.625" H (11.7 cm).
Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s
