12th C. Khmer Angkor Glazed Pottery Jar, ex-Museum

Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Northern Thailand, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. An attractive pottery jar presenting a circular, flat base and impressively thin walls that expand to a rounded shoulder, a narrow neck, and an annular, flared rim. The rim of the ancient vessel boasts a lustrous glaze of creamy beige, while the body is enveloped in a rich chocolate brown gloss. A pair of petite knobs envelope the neck, sitting just below the rim. Size: 8" in diameter x 14.125" H (20.3 cm x 35.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998

Condition Report: Repairs to base and rim with some restoration. Some nicks and abrasions throughout, as well as minor chipping to glaze in some small areas. Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice earthen deposits on interior.
