12th C. Korean Goryeo Celadon Ware Bowl

East Asia, Korea, Kingdom of Goryeo (Koryo), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A blue-grey celadon ceramic bowl, its exterior decorated with a series of incised lines forming an interlocking triangular pattern around the body. The bowl is deep, with a flaring rim. The Freer and Sackler Galleries, Washington, DC, have several similar celadon bowls from the Goryeo period. Size: 6.25" W x 3" H (15.9 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
