13-15th century Mon style Burmese Buddha. Fine Example, superb patina.

[ translate ]

This is a very uncommon example of a 13-15thC century Mon style Burmese Buddha. It has some features which echo the Pagan style of a few centuries earlier, and some things in common with the Ava style with which it is contemporary. It is, however, completely Mon. The Mon people had a strong presence in Burma for more than a thousand years. They were integrated into the general population and pretty much disappeared as a distinct living culture somewhere in the 18th century. Fortunately, their wonderful art lives on. Jade green patina. 5.75 tall."Best of its type.
