13th C. Sukhothai Glazed Pottery Jar, ex-Museum

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai Kingdom, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A stunning pottery jar featuring an underglaze of mottled green, blue, purple, and pink hues. The ancient vessel presents a reverse piriform body with a flared base and rim, all elegantly adorned with a black-painted, decorative program comprised of several horizontal registers of geometric, abstract, vegetal, and floral motifs. Size: 6" in diameter x 11.625" H (15.2 cm x 29.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
