14th C. Thai Sawankhalok Stoneware Jar

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. A gorgeous, full-bodied pottery jar with a rotund body, a squatted neck, and heavily tapered shoulders, all covered with lustrous glaze. The surface is lightly ridged across its horizontal plane with a beautifully glazed surface that is a sage green hue with a light brown undertone - presumably from its buffware. A nice craquelure accents the glaze which covers the evenly entirety of the vessel. Size: 9" W x 9.75" H (22.9 cm x 24.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998

Condition Report: Chipping to glazed surface is evident in scattered areas. Remains of an old inventory label is present on the rim. Otherwise, in good condition with a beautiful sheen to its surface. Presents well!
