1.5 pottery “Dome of the Rock” type tile decorated in blue, turquise and black. Iznik? 1540–60. Visible size 19×27 cm. Framed.
According to Peder Mortensens notes the tiles which he bought in Athen 1969 are Iznik. However it has been discussed whether they are 16th century Damascus tiles. Provenance: Archeologist Peder Mortensen b. 1934 Director of the Moesgaard Museum from 1982–1996 Director for the Danish Institute in Damascus and cultural advisor to the Danish embassy in Damascus 1996–2001 Honorary professor in Middle Eastern studies at University of Copenhagen.
Condition: Examined with mountings, without guarantee for hidden defects. Minor chips and cracks.
