Cum indicibus copiosissimis.
Lyon, Johannes Tornaesius, 1558.
Title with arabesque border and 198 woodcuts in text by Bernard Salomon.
The 83 illustrations for the New Testament are each framed by two arabesque borders.
Size 5 1/4 by 7" (17 x 12 cm.)
Blind embossed pigskin binding over wooden boards with 2 intact brass clasps.
Third de Tournes edition of the Latin Bible in the version of Robert Estienne (see Darlow-Moule 3155) with the important woodcut illustrations by Bernard Salomon (1508-1561), known as Petit Bernard.
These woodcuts were made by de Tournes in various Latin, French and Italian Bibles as well as used in the Quadrins historiques of Claude Paradin.
The woodcuts are identical to those in the de Tournes Bible from 1554.

At the beginning a few sheets with two small burn holes. Otherwise very good condition.
